Ridgemont Highlands’ hot resident sire Canford Cliffs came up with his 14th first South African crop winner when his two-year-old daughter Tabby Kat won in open company on Saturday.
Sent off a hot favourite for Saturday’s TAB 4Racing App Maiden Plate (1600m), the Michael and Adam Azzie trained Tabby Kat never looked in serious danger in Saturday’s race.
Given a patient ride from recent July winning jockey S’Manga Khumalo, Tabby Kat tracked the front running Summerland before hitting the front 100m from home.
TABBY KAT (Canford Cliffs – Kindly Kat @Ridgemont_SA ) and @dancewithkhumal were comfy winners of the 2nd at #Turffontein

From there, Tabby Kat pulled away to score a shade cosily by just over a length and a quarter.
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Tabby Kat was making her fourth start on Saturday, with the filly having finished second at Turffontein last time out.
Out of the Machiavellian mare Kindly Kat, Tabby Kat was a R325 000 buy from the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Currently heading the South African Leading First Season Sires List for 2021-2022, Canford Cliffs’ 14 individual first crop winners equals the mark set by Rafeef, Captain Of All, Soft Falling Rain, Gimmiethegreenlight, Trippi, and Western Winter.
The former star miler and five time G1 winner has 11 lots on offer at the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale.
