Second consecutive Ormond Ferraris Oaks Trial winner for Rafeef

Ridgemont’s red hot resident sire Rafeef came up with his 18th stakes winner when his progressive daughter Frances Ethel won the Listed Ormond Ferraris Oaks Trial (2000m) at Turffontein on Saturday.

Frances Ethel is the second Oaks Trial winner for her sire, with Rafeef daughter Ipso Facto victorious in the 2023 Ormond Ferraris Oaks Trial.

Trained by Brett and James Crawford, three-year-old Frances Ethel made it three wins on the trot, and three wins from four starts, when she won Saturday’s Oaks Trial.

Under a great ride from Anthandiwe Mgudlwa, Frances Ethel powered home to claim Saturday’s R175 000 contest for three-year-old fillies by nearly a length and a quarter.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Frances Ethel is out of the Fort Wood mare Daphne Garland.

The filly was a R160 000 buy from the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale.

A G1 winning son of multiple champion sire Redoute’s Choice, Rafeef is having an outstanding season in 2023-2024 thus far and is also responsible for this season’s South African stakes winners Mrs Browning, Mover And Shaker, Aragosta, Troppo Veloce and Juliet Tango.

The brother to champion Mustaaqeem has 21 lots on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale.
