Having literally commenced their racing on the dizzy high of a victory in the 2017 J&B Met with their Australian-bred gelding Whisky Baron, the passionate family have always set the bar high and they are reaping the fruits of their astute equine investments.
While they have recently spread their allocation to a wider range of trainers, it was Philippi based Brett Crawford who enjoyed the honour of saddling the three Ridgemont winners, with retained rider Anton Marcus piloting two and Corne Orffer on the third.
First of the Ridgemont hat-trick was the Australian-bred Maningi Indaba, who followed up on her maiden victory with a win full of merit in the 1800m MR74 Handicap.
Corne Orffer was aboard the Highlands bred Jackson filly Water Spirit, who stayed on well to win the next race – a quality MR 100 Handicap for the girls. A beautiful looker – like her Dad – Water Spirit has now won twice in seven starts – having earned place cheques at four of the balance. She will pay to follow.
Flashback to the Met…
The final event of an entertaining afternoon produced another thrilling finish, with Anton Marcus at his best in keeping the Highlands bred Duke Of Marmalade filly Wallis Simpson at her task for her second win from ten starts. The 4yo raced fresh and enthusiastic off a 20 week break following her all wrong effort in the Winter Oaks.
The Ridgemont Team also had promising seconds with the Highlands bred Dynasty fillies Sing Out Loud (on debut) and Proclaimer (third start and up in trip) showing that they shouldn’t be long in winning.
