Ridgemont Highlands’ prominent young stallion Rafeef continues to churn out hugely impressive winners all over South Africa, and the son of Redoute’s Choice did it again at Turffontein on Sunday afternoon.
Rafeef’s two-year-old son Thunderstruck built on a promising third on debut with a smashing victory over some well bred juveniles, and Thunderstruck looks to be a colt going places.
Under an inform Calvin Habib, the Sean Tarry trained colt simply outclassed his rivals in Sunday’s#ThisIsRacing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1160m).
Despite racing erratically in the closing stages, Thunderstruck powered away to score emphatically by four and a half lengths.
Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, Thunderstruck was a R1 000 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
Out of the Var mare Varikate, Thunderstruck is bred on the same Rafeef/Var cross as impressive recent G1 Computaform Sprint winner Master Archie.
Currently South Africa’s Leading Second Season Sire for 2021-2022, Rafeef has some very smart two-year-olds to his name this season including G2 Heineken SA Nursery runner up Union Square, G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery runner up Spywing and the unbeaten Who Do You Love.
