Described by connections as “tough, hardy, competitive and who always ran to her best”

Top-class filly Pretty Young Thing has been retired to stud, and will join Ridgemont Highlands’ growing band of top-class mares.

Connections are planning to send the daughter of Ridgemont’s multiple G1 winning stallion Jackson to either the farm’s boom sire Rafeef, who has made such a big splash with his first runners this season, or to five-time G1 winner, and fellow Ridgemont resident, Canford Cliffs, whose first local crop were extremely well received this season at the yearling sales.

The latter has himself been in splendid form of late, with Canford Cliffs’ most recent flag bearers including such group winners as Jin Jin and Money Matters to name but two!

Described by connections as “tough, hardy, competitive and who always ran to her best”, Pretty Young Thing claimed a notable scalp when she defeated her G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas winner stablemate Front And Centre, now also at Ridgemont Highlands, in the 2020 G3 Vasco Da Gama Prix Du Cap (footage below).

Other notable performers defeated by Pretty Young Thing included such graded stakes winners as Cockney Pride, Miss Florida, Santa Clara, Temple Grafin and True To Life.

Also victorious in the G3 Poinsettia Stakes of 2020, Pretty Young Thing won five of 17 starts for earnings of more than R500 000.

A filly from an outstanding family, Pretty Young Thing looks a very attractive addition to the Ridgemont Highlands broodmare band.

Out of Commands’ Swallow Stakes winning daughter Nona In Command, Pretty Young Thing is a three-parts sister to this season’s G3 World Sports Betting Variety Club Mile winner Warrior.

A direct descendant of Melbourne Cup winner Rainbird, Pretty Young Thing hails from the immediate family of five-time G1 winning champion filly Laisserfaire, among many others!
