Irish Champion Pathfork, whose half-brother War Of Will ranks as a leading hope for the 2019 Kentucky Derby following his impressive G2 Risen Star Stakes win on Saturday, had an eye catching debut winner at Turffontein on Sunday afternoon.
Three-year-old Pathfork filly Louvain caught the eye when scoring a 0.6 of a length win, over 1160m, at the first time of asking for trainer Erico Verdonese and jockey Deon Sampson.
Louvain, who was Pathfork’s only runner on the card, is out of a mare by Up And At ‘Em.
The filly was a R120 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
Pathfork, a winner of the G1 National Stakes –like top sires Dubawi, El Prado and Roberto, has enjoyed a tremendous run of success with his fillies of late. Other notable daughters to have recently represented the son of Distorted Humor include East Cape champion Madame Speaker, Listed Swallow Stakes second Mighty High, Tattersalls Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Miss Honey, and R600 000 plus earner Skye Lane.
Also responsible for the graded stakes winners Red Chesnut Road and My Friend Lee, Pathfork has four lots on March’s Cape Yearling Sale –including a filly (Lot 125) out of a four time winning daughter of Silvano, a half-sister (Lot 135) to former Met contender Awesome Power, and a full-brother (Lot 156) to the very useful Zeb.
