Ridgemont Highlands’ exciting resident stallion Canford Cliffs came up with his third winner from his first South African born crop when his two-year-old daughter I Am Regal made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.
Trained by Paul Peter, I Am Regal was allowed to start a 5-1 shot for Sunday’s Durban Child And Youth Care Centre Maiden Juvenile Plate (1400m).
The Canford Cliffs daughter, however, made her starting price look generous as she put up a professional display to win at the first time of asking.
Under Muzi Yeni, I Am Regal ran on strongly in the closing stages and kept finding more to hold off a late challenge from eventual runner up Royal Victory and win by a neck.
Bred by Ndoro Stud, I Am Regal was a R60 000 buy from the 2021 Cape Yearling Sale.
She joins Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Cliff Top (who beat subsequent G3 Cape Racing Cape Of Good Hope Nursery winner We’re Jamming in landing the Summer Juvenile Stakes) and impressive debut winner Body Electric as early winners to have emerged from the first South African crop of star miler Canford Cliffs. The Ridgemont Highlands went close to having further success with his promising daughter Pinnacle finishing a close up second on Friday.
