Greyville Win For Canford Cliffs’ Big Slick

Ridgemont Highlands’ five time G1 winning stallion Canford Cliffs has made a bright start with his first South African bred and born runners this season, and the former star miler came up with another eye catching winner from his first local crop when his two-year-old son Big Slick got off the mark on Monday.

Third on his only previous start when beaten half a length, Big Slick duly went one better with a courageous effort at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Monday.

Under Robert Khathi, the Yogas Govender trained colt produced a fine turn of foot which saw Big Slick mow down his rivals and get up to win Monday’s www.tabgold.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m) by just under half a length.

Bred by Golden Touch Thoroughbred Services, Big Slick was a R320 000 buy from last year’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.

Big Slick, who is out of the Tamburlaine mare Velvets Reflection, is the fourth winner to have emerged from Canford Cliffs’ first local crop.

Other eye catching winners to have emerged from this crop include Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Cliff Top, and impressive debut winners Body Electric and I Am Regal.

At the time of writing, Canford Cliffs had been responsible 11 runners from this crop to have either won or finished in the money.
