Almost 22 years after the Lafferty-trained Splendid Night opened their account at the Theatre Of Dreams under Sean Cormack, the Hollywood Syndicate are on the cusp of a sparkling milestone as Great Cat scraped home under Sean Veale to win the penultimate race at a sun-drenched Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Monday to register the purple and yellow team’s 499th winner.
The spirited Ridgemont bred Dynasty filly has been a model of consistency since shedding her maiden at Hollywoodbets Durbanville at her fourth outing in October.
And she made it 2 wins from 8 starts when holding on just long enough under Sean Veale to beat the flying year younger 18-10 favourite Winter Rainfall by a nose in a time of 71,35 secs for the 1200m.
Winter Rainfall is an entry in the R7,5 million Cape Racing Gold Rush on World Sports Betting Met day and ran a cracking prep.
Mindful of the Hollywood Syndicate incentive of R50 000 each for the winning trainer and jockey, and R10 000 for the winning groom of their 500th winner, the chirpy Sean Veale said that he wouldn’t have minded the R50 000, but that a winner was more important!
