Highlands Stud part of Ridgemont’s outstanding sire Dynasty was to the fore over the weekend, with his offspring winning a trio of feature races on Saturday.
Not only did Dynasty gelding Roman Discent land the Zim G1 Castle Tankard, but Dynasty runners Sabina’s Dynasty and Let It Rain won the G2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes and G3 World Sports Betting Gold Bowl respectively.
The 2018 Castle Tankard proved a huge triumph for the former Horse Of The Year, with Dynasty sire not only of the winner Roman Discent but also third place finisher Kilrain.
Roman Discent, another major winner bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm (also breeders of Saturday’s G1 Computaform Sprint winner Attenborough), made it win number four when accounting for Simona by a short head in Saturday’s Castle Tankard.
Four times Equus Outstanding Stallion Dynasty also enjoyed a notable graded race double at Champions Day on Saturday, which was kicked started by daughter Sabina’s Dynasty’s gutsy win in the Gerald Rosenberg Stakes. Trained by Paul Peter, and ridden to victory by Piere Strydom, the Michael De Broglio bred four-year-old picked up her fourth win when scoring a half-length win in the R400 000 feature.
It was a first feature win for the regally bred Sabina’s Dynasty, who had previously finished a short head second in the Listed Jacaranda Handicap. The filly has now banked over R600 000 in prize money.
Dynasty’s Highlands Stud bred son Let It Rain stamped himself a leading contender for the title of Equus Champion Stayer when making all the running to land Saturday’s Gold Bowl by a length over recent G3 Caradoc Gold Cup winner Just Cruised In. A first winner for trainer Ashley Fortune, the five-year-old gelding’s previous victories included both the G2 Heineken Cape Stayers and Listed Java Handicap. The well bred Let It Rain has now won seven races and has earnings of more than R1.2 million to his credit.
Another son of Dynasty, Noble Secret, ran third in the G1 SA Derby at Turffontein on Saturday.
Dynasty, whose son Track King made R5.2 million at the recent Emperors Palace National Yearling, is enjoying his customary outstanding season with his runners excelling all over the country.
Among Dynasty’s top runners this season, barring the horses mentioned above, are G1 Investec Cape Derby hero Eyes Wide Open, unbeaten G3 Flamboyant Stakes winner Hashtagyolo, G3 winner Our Emperor and G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes winner Lady In Black.
