Hannover racecourse in the north of Germany signalled a return to normality on Thursday when racing returned with jockeys wearing their colour-coded face masks from start to finish in the blazing hot sun.

There was nobody on course, bar the essential few, and it was great to see Ridgemont Highlands’ five time Gr1 winning sire Canford Cliffs’ four-year-old daughter Jin Jin capture the Listed Grosse Hannoversche Stutenmeile run over a mile.

Unbeaten in four starts, the Irish-bred Jin Jin stayed on to score a game short-head win over promising 4yo Axana -it was another four and a half lengths back to the third place finisher Nica.

Trained by Bohumil Nedorostek, and ridden to victory by Maxim Pecheur, Jin Jin is the first stakes winner produced by the non-winning Okawango mare Josphiel.

In the process, Jin Jin became Canford Cliffs’ 17th individual stakes winner.

Canford Cliffs, whose first South African yearlings sell in 2021, is currently the sire of nearly 40 black type horses, and his Gr2 Antler Luggage Fillies Classic winning daughter La Falaise recently ran fourth in the Gr1 Schweppes Oaks.

To date, the Irish classic winner’s progeny have banked over $22 000 000.
