Ridgemont Highlands resident sire Canford Cliffs struck in Dubai on Thursday night when his six-year-old son Cliffs Of Capri scored over 1600m at Meydan racecourse.

Trained by Jamie Osborne, Cliffs Of Capri sat mid-pack in Thursday’s Jaguar XE Handicap, but was shuffled back under Tadhg O’Shea approaching the far turn. Patiently handled, the bay charge waited until the straight to do his best running, showing a determined turn-of-foot to deny Al Ali Rashid Al Rayhi-trained Moqtarreb by a head.

“We were confident the ability was still there, but were starting to question his temperament, so we put the blinkers on and it has worked,” Osborne said. “We were probably in front plenty early enough and the horse perhaps had a little think, but it is great to see him win again and a big result for all of us involved.”

Out of the Royal Applause mare Shannon Spree, Cliffs Of Capri has now won six times and has another eight placings to his name.

His five time G1 winning sire Canford Cliffs is currently the sire of 36 stakes horses, with the former Irish 2000 Guineas winner’s progeny having already banked in excess of $21 000 000.
