Ridgemont Highlands look to have a very attractive future broodmare prospect in the form of speedy four-year-old Capitana.
The latter claimed a well-deserved first stakes win when scoring a courageous victory in Saturday’s Listed Computaform Online Olympic Duel Stakes (1200m) at Kenilworth racecourse.
Trained by Brett Crawford, Capitana was well fancied for Saturday’s sprint for fillies and mares, with the daughter of Captain Al sent off a 4-1 chance.

Favourite Phil’s Dancer wasted no time and went out to make the running, with Greg Cheyne keeping Capitana just off the early speed.
Coming to the 200m mark, Cheyne asked Capitana for her effort, and she hit the front. Phil’s Dancer tried to fight back, and the Ridgemont-owned Iris came with a late burst.
However, Capitana stayed on gamely to record a near-half-length win, with Iris defying stamina doubts with a bold showing in second, and Phil’s Dancer taking third.
Now a five-time winner from 11 starts, Capitana claimed Saturday’s win in a time of 75.37 seconds, she is the 105th stakes winner for deceased champion sire Captain Al.

Out of the Galileo mare Exotic, Capitana is a sister to the winner Kaptein. Exotic, who hails from the same family as Galileo’s G1 Ranvet Stakes-winning son The United States as well as the latter’s G1 winning own sisters Hermosa and Hydrangea, is out of G1 Irish Oaks runner up Ice Queen (Danehill Dancer).
