Ridgemont Highlands’ resident sires Canford Cliffs and Rafeef enjoyed a wonderful Saturday, with Rafeef supplying two graded stakes winners at Turffontein, and five-time G1 winner Canford Cliffs’ maternal grandsire of Saturday’s brilliant G2 Amelia Park-Karrakatta Plate winner Amelia’s Jewel.
The latter made it three wins from three starts with a powerful performance in Saturday’s Karrakatta Plate.
Having won the G3 WATC Gimcrack Stakes and the Listed Bunbury TC Supremacy Stakes in her two previous starts, Amelia’s Jewel went off a short-priced favourite in the Karrakatta Plate and gave her growing fan base reason to cheer.
With just two runners behind her on the turn, Amelia’s Jewel was angled to the centre of the track by Patrick Carberry.
Picking off one after another, Amelia’s Jewel put the race to bed at the 200m. She defeated the Playing God filly Baby Paris by two and a half lengths.
A daughter of Siyouni, Amelia’s Jewel is out of the Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina.
Bumbasina’s sire Canford Cliffs has made a fine start with his first South African bred and born crop this season headed by ten first crop two-year-olds having won or placed thus far.
The former Irish 2000 Guineas winner has five lots on offer at the 2022 National Yearling Sale headed by a colt (Lot 209) out of outstanding racemare Takingthepeace.
