The Barnane Stud bred and owned gelding Candleford stormed home to win impressively at Kempton on Wednesday.

Trained by William Haggas, the three-year-old son of Kingman was all the rage for Wednesday night’s Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap and duly lived up to expectations.

Candleford, under Tom Marquand, drew off in the closing stages of the handicap to post a three length score, while taking his tally of wins to two from seven starts.

Third in each of his two previous starts, Candleford was rewarded for consistency with a convincing win on Wednesday and he looks progressive.

A well bred sort, Candleford opened account in fine style when winning at Windsor back in August when scoring by four lengths under Marquand, who has now ridden him on just two occasions, for his two victories.

By Kingman, himself an exciting son of Invincible Spirit, already responsible for for over 55 stakes performers including G1 winners Palace Pier, Domestic Spending, Schnell Meister and Persian King, Candleford is out of Listed Pretty Polly Stakes winner Dorcas Lane, who is also dam of the useful Atty Persse.

A direct descendant of legendary broodmare Horama, Dorcas Lane (by Norse Dancer)’s third dam is Irish Oaks winner Give Thanks.
