Former Equus Champion, and current Ridgemont Highlands broodmare Overarching, received a handsome boost to her pedigree page following the running of the G1 Natalma Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday.

That one mile turf contest for two-year-olds was won by the blue blooded filly Abscond (Blame–Solitary Life, by Grand Slam), with the latter holding off a determined challenge by Walk In Marrakesh to score a nose win.

Now a winner of two of only three starts, Abscond earned an automatic berth in the upcoming G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies with her win on Sunday.
Assistant Kelly Wheeler said after the win, “I’m really impressed with her. She’s done everything right since she broke her maiden. Really, we’ve asked a lot of her shipping her up to Saratoga – she handled that great. So we shipped her up here, it looked like a good spot, and she came through.”

Abscond’s dam Solitary Life is a half-sister to four stakes winners, including US graded stakes winner Temeraine (by Arch) and triple Equus Champion and dual G1 winner Overarching.

The latter, whose five graded wins included scores in both the G1 SA Fillies Sprint and G1 Horse Chestnut Stakes, has since gone on to enjoy success as a broodmare in South Africa, with Overarching’s 5 winners including G1 Woolavington 2000 winner Lady Of The House and Winter Oaks third place-getter Heaven’s Embrace.
Unfortunately, Overarching is not in foal.

Overarching, whose Smart Strike sired half-sister Sassifaction is dam of dual G2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap winner Cambodia, is extremely closely related to Abscond, with the former being sired by Arch and the latter sired by Arch’s champion son Blame.

This is also the female line of dual G1 winner Nathaniel (sire of champion Enable) and exceptional producer Polished Gem.

The latter, a daughter of Danehill, also made headlines over the past weekend, with her lightly raced three-year-old daughter Search For A Song winning the G1 Corner Group International Irish St Leger impressively on Sunday.
Polished Gem (a winning full-sister to G1 Matriarch Stakes winner Dress To Thrill) is now the dam of six stakes winners (five group winners), with her progeny also including G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner and promising young sire Free Eagle.
