Ridgemont Highlands’ triple Gr1 winning sire Jackson has been in great form of late and the son of Dynasty followed up on his three winners over the past weekend when his son Count Jack scored a minor surprise to the second race under Keagan de Melo at Kenilworth on Wednesday.

A R250 000 Cape Premier Yearling Sale graduate, Count Jack finished well to beat stablemates Super Silvano and Kilindini.

It was a triumphant race of mixed fortunes after the great showing by King Of Gems and Macthief in Saturday’s Gr2 Concorde Cup. Brett Crawford’s expectations of the Silvano colt Kilindini adding to his Cape Guineas attack suffered a minor setback.

Sent off a hot order odds-on shot in the 1600m six horse second race MR 82 field, the Varsfontein Stud-bred Kilindini was relaxed under topweight off the gallop set by his stablemate Super Silvano.

Into the run for home, Kilindini failed to quicken and rounded off the Brett Crawford trifecta – in mostly the wrong order for Bipot punters.

He gave weight and was only beaten a half length in the end by Count Jack (15-2) and Super Silvano (7-1).

Racing in the interests of Hong Kong-based Edmond Siu, Kilindini was a R2,8 million National Yearling Sale purchase and is out of the Jet Master mare, Kiss And Fly.
