Rafeef colt impresses on debut

Ridgemont’s top-class stallion Rafeef looks to have a good prospect to his name in the form of Cognac.
The latter made an impressive start to his career when he made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.
Trained by Stuart Ferrie, three-year-old Cognac stormed home, under Sean Veale, to land the Race Coast Maiden Plate (1200m) by more than three and a quarter lengths.
The race was a good result for Rafeef, with Cognac beating his paternal half-brother Son Of Rafeef into second spot.

It was a great effort from Cognac, with the latter very green in running.

Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, Cognac races for Hollywood Racing.

Sunday’s winner, who is out of the Silvano mare Tiffindell, was a R400 000 buy from the 2024 Cape Yearling Sale.

His sire Rafeef enjoyed a fine season in 2024-2025, where his six black type winners included G1 Computaform Sprint hero William Robertson.

Rafeef has nine lots on offer at next month’s Two Year Old Sale.
